Dr. Andrew Newton - Psychiatric Care for Pennsylvania Patients

Dr. Andrew Newton is a Harrisburg-based private practice psychiatrist with an extensive background serving the needs of Pennsylvania’s underprivileged, including the uninsured and underinsured. With in-depth knowledge of addiction medicine and treatment, he has worked extensively with patients within the correctional system. Dr. Andrew Newton employs modalities such as esketamine (Spravato) and trans-magnetic stimulation in managing treatment-resistant depression.

Dr. Newton gained early experience in Ibadan, Nigeria, serving as senior house officer in neurology at St. Mary’s General Hospital. He subsequently practiced geriatric, addiction, and general adult psychiatry in Essex in the United Kingdom, and taught learning disability and acute psychiatry at the Royal London Hospital. Dr. Newton also completed mental health studies (MSc) at the University of London and pursued dissertation work in schizophrenia and medication compliance.

Shifting his practice to the United States in the late 1990s, Dr. Andrew Newton completed a psychiatry residency at Philadelphia’s Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. His present responsibilities include a chief regional psychiatrist role with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, where he works with those who are incarcerated on addressing behavioral and psychological issues.
